하나님의 선택은 성경 전체를 관통하는 중요한 주제입니다. 이는 창조에서부터 구원의 완성에 이르기까지 하나님의 주권적인 뜻이 어떻게 이루어지는지를 보여줍니다. 이 글에서는 하나님의 선택에 관한 여러 측면을 살펴보겠습니다.

 

1. 창조와 하나님의 목적

 

거룩한 자녀를 얻고자 하는 하나님의 뜻

 

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."

 

(하나님께서 이르시되, 우리가 우리의 형상으로 우리의 모양에 따라 사람을 만들고 그들이 바다의 물고기와 공중의 날짐승과 가축과 온 땅과 땅에서 기는 모든 기는 것을 지배하게 하자, 하시고)[Genesis 1:26]

 

하나님께서는 땅의 흙으로 사람을 창조하셨습니다. 그 목적은 거룩한 자녀를 얻고자 함이었습니다. 하나님은 자신의 형상대로 인간을 만드셨고, 그들이 하나님과 교제하며 그분의 영광을 나타내기를 원하셨습니다.

 

2. 아브라함의 선택

 

하나님의 주권적 선택

 

"For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people"

 

(네가 주 네 하나님께 거룩한 백성이기 때문이라. 주 네 하나님께서 지면에 있는 모든 백성들 위로 너를 택하여 자신에게 특별한 백성이 되게 하셨느니라. 주께서 너희를 기뻐하시고 너희를 택하신 것은 너희가 다른 백성들보다 수가 더 많기 때문이 아니니라. 너희는 모든 백성들 중에서 가장 적었느니라.)[Deuteronomy 7:6-7]

 

하나님께서 아브라함을 선택하신 것은 그의 능력이나 수적 우세 때문이 아니었습니다. 이는 전적으로 하나님의 주권적인 선택이었습니다. 하나님은 자신의 뜻대로 택하시고 부르십니다.

 

3. 이스라엘: 제사장 나라로의 선택

 

하나님의 특별한 목적

 

"Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel."

 

(그러므로 이제 너희가 참으로 내 목소리에 순종하고 내 언약을 지키면 너희는 내게 모든 백성들 위에 뛰어난 특별한 보물이 되리니 이는 온 땅이 내 것이기 때문이니라. 또 너희는 내게 제사장 왕국이 되며 거룩한 민족이 되리라. 네가 이스라엘 자손에게 할 말들이 이러하니라, 하시니라.)[Exodus 19:5-6]

 

하나님은 모세를 통해 이스라엘에게 율법을 주시고 그들을 제사장 나라로 세우셨습니다. 이는 이스라엘이 하나님의 대리자로서 세상에 하나님의 뜻을 전하고 그분의 성품을 나타내기 위함이었습니다.

 

4. 복과 저주의 선택

 

생명을 선택하라는 하나님의 명령

 

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live"

 

(내가 이 날 하늘과 땅을 불러 너희에게 증거로 삼노라. 내가 생명과 사망과 복과 저주를 너희 앞에 두었은즉 그러므로 너희와 네 씨가 살기 위하여 생명을 택하라.)[Deuteronomy 30:19]

 

하나님은 이스라엘 백성에게 복과 저주를 제시하시며 생명을 얻기 위해 복을 선택하라고 명령하셨습니다. 이는 하나님의 선택과 인간의 책임이 함께 작용함을 보여줍니다.

 

5. 이스라엘의 불순종과 이방 신 선택

 

하나님을 버리고 우상을 좇는 이스라엘

 

"They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not."

 

(그들이 이상한 신들로 그분의 질투를 일으키며 가증한 것들로 그분의 분노를 일으켰도다. 그들이 하나님이 아닌 마귀들에게 희생물을 드리되 자기들이 알지 못하던 신들에게 드렸으니 곧 너희 조상들이 두려워하지 아니하던 새 신들 즉 최근에 일어난 신들이로다.)[Deuteronomy 32:16-17]

 

이스라엘은 종종 하나님을 버리고 헛된 이방 신들을 선택했습니다. 이는 하나님의 마음을 아프게 하고 그분의 진노를 불러일으켰습니다.

 

 

창세기 18:19

KJV: "For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him."

KJV: "For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth."

 

(네가 여호와 네 하나님께 거룩한 백성이니라, 여호와 네 하나님은 너를 모든 땅의 백성 중에서 택하사 자기 소유의 백성이 되게 하셨느니라.)

 

예레미야 7:23-24

KJV: "But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward."

 

(내가 그들에게 명령한 것은 이것이니라, 즉 내 말을 들으라, 내가 너희 하나님이 되고 너희가 나의 백성이 되리라, 너희가 내가 명령한 모든 길을 행하라, 그리하면 너희에게 잘 될 것이요, 그러나 그들은 듣지 아니하며 귀를 기울이지 아니하고, 각기 사악한 마음의 고상과 꾀를 따라 행하여 후퇴하였지, 전진하지 아니하였더라.)

 

이 구절들은 하나님이 특별히 선택한 백성에게 그의 길을 따르라고 명령하였으나, 그들이 종종 불순종하였음을 보여줍니다.

 

 

6. 하나님의 선택과 인간의 불순종

 

하나님의 계획은 반드시 성취됨

 

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

 

(주가 말하노라. 내 생각들은 너희 생각들과 다르며 내 길들은 너희 길들과 다르니라. 하늘들이 땅보다 높음같이 내 길들은 너희 길들보다 높으며 내 생각들은 너희 생각들보다 높으니라.)[Isaiah 55:8-9]

 

하나님의 선택적인 결정은 사람의 불순종으로 지연될 수 있지만, 결국 성취됩니다. 하나님의 계획은 인간의 이해를 초월하며, 그분의 뜻은 반드시 이루어집니다.

 

7. 출애굽 후 이스라엘의 불순종

 

광야에서의 반복된 불순종

 

"How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel."

 

(그들이 광야에서 그분을 얼마나 자주 격노하게 하며 사막에서 그분을 슬프게 하였는가! 참으로 그들이 되돌아가 하나님을 시험하고 이스라엘의 거룩하신 이를 제한하였도다.)[Psalm 78:40-41]

 

출애굽 이후 가나안에 들어갈 때까지 이스라엘은 수많은 불순종을 저질렀습니다. 이는 하나님의 인내와 자비를 시험하는 행위였습니다.

 

8. 형식적인 예배와 지도자들의 타락

 

하나님을 경멸하는 제사장들

 

"A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is my fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?"

 

(아들은 자기 아버지를 공경하고 종은 자기 주인을 공경하나니 그런즉 내가 만일 아버지라면 나를 공경함이 어디 있느냐? 내가 만일 주인이라면 나를 두려워함이 어디 있느냐? 오 내 이름을 멸시하는 제사장들아, 만군의 주가 너희에게 말하노라. 그런데도 너희는 이르기를, 우리가 어떻게 주의 이름을 멸시하였나이까? 하는도다.)

이스라엘의 제사장들과 지도자들은 하나님의 약속과 섬기는 일을 형식적으로 대하며 경멸했습니다. 이는 하나님의 진노를 불러일으켰습니다.

 

9. 하나님의 침묵과 새로운 시작

 

400년의 침묵과 메시아의 예비

 

"Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts."

 

(보라, 내가 내 사자를 보내리니 그가 내 앞에서 길을 예비하리라. 또 너희가 구하는 주 곧 너희가 기뻐하는 언약의 사자가 갑자기 자기 성전에 임하리니, 보라, 그가 임하리라. 만군의 주가 말하노라.)[Malachi 3:1]

 

말라기 이후 400년 동안 하나님은 침묵하셨습니다. 그러나 이는 새로운 시작을 위한 준비 기간이었습니다. 하나님은 세례 요한을 보내어 메시아의 길을 예비하게 하셨습니다.

 

10. 세례 요한과 예수님의 사역

 

왕국 복음의 선포

 

"And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."

 

(그가 요르단 주변의 온 지역에 가서 죄들의 사면을 얻게 하는 회개의 침례를 선포하며 이사야 대언자의 말씀들의 책에 기록된 것과 같이 이르되, 광야에서 외치는 자의 소리가 있어 이르기를, 너희는 주의 길을 예비하라. 그분의 행로들을 곧게 하라.)[Luke 3:3-4]

 

세례 요한은 예수 그리스도의 길을 예비하며 왕국 복음을 선포했습니다. 그러나 많은 이들은 예수님을 메시아로 인정하지 않았습니다.

 

세례 요한의 의문

 

"And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?"

 

(요한이 자기 제자들 중의 두 사람을 불러 예수님께 보내며 이르되, 선생님이 오실 그분이오니이까? 아니면 우리가 다른 분을 기다리오리이까? 하라, 하매)[Luke 7:19]

 

세례 요한조차도 예수님이 정말로 메시아인지 의문을 품었습니다. 이는 당시 사람들의 메시아에 대한 기대와 예수님의 사역 사이의 간극을 보여줍니다.

 

11. 예수님에 대한 비난과 거부

"And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him."

일부 종교 지도자들은 예수님이 안식일을 어기고 스스로를 하나님의 아들이라 주장한다며 비난했습니다. 그들은 예수님을 메시아로 받아들이지 않았습니다.

 

12. 예수님의 예언과 이스라엘의 거부

"Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord." (보라, 너희 집이 버림받아 너희에게 황폐하게 되었느니

"For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in." "I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy." (그러면 내가 말하노니 그들이 넘어지기까지 실족하였느냐? 결코 그럴 수 없느니라. 오히려 그들의 넘어짐으로 말미암아 구원이 이방인들에게 이르렀으니 이것은 그들로 하여금 질투하게 하려 함이니라.)[Romans 11:11]

 

"For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief:" (너희가 전에는 하나님을 믿지 아니하더니 이제는 그들의 믿지 아니함으로 말미암아 긍휼을 얻었느니라.)[Romans 11:30]

 

"Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy." (이와 같이 이 사람들이 지금 믿지 아니하는 것은 너희에게 베푸시는 긍휼로 인하여 그들도 긍휼을 얻게 하려 하심이니라.)[Romans 11:31]

 

"For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all." (하나님이 모든 사람을 믿지 아니하는 가운데 가두어 두심은 모든 사람에게 긍휼을 베풀려 하심이로다.)[Romans 11:32]

 

"And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing unto thy name." (또 이방인들로 그 긍휼로 인하여 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 하려 하심이라. 이와 같이 기록된 바 이러므로 내가 이방인들 가운데서 주께 감사하고 주의 이름을 찬송하리이다 함과 같으니라.)[Romans 15:9]

 

"But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith,

I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you." (그러나 내가 말하노니 이스라엘이 알지 못하였느냐? 먼저 모세가 이르되 내가 백성 아닌 자로서 너희를 시기나게 하며 미련한 백성으로서 너희를 노엽게 하리라 하였고)[Romans 10:19]

 

"But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me." (또한 이사야가 매우 담대하여 이르되 내가 나를 찾지 아니하는 자들에게 찾은 바 되었으며 내게 구하지 아니하는 자들에게 나타났노라 하였고)[Romans 10:20]

 

"But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people." (이스라엘을 대하여 이르되 순종하지 아니하고 거슬러 말하는 백성에게 내가 종일 내 손을 벌렸노라 하였느니라.)[Romans 10:21]

 

"What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded" (그런즉 어떠하냐? 이스라엘이 구하는 그것을 얻지 못하고 오직 택하심을 입은 자들이 얻었고 그 남은 자들은 우둔하여졌느니라.)[Romans 11:7]

 

14. 예수 그리스도안의 안전한 보장

 

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." (주께서 호령과 천사장의 음성과 하나님의 나팔 소리와 함께 친히 하늘로부터 내려오시리니 그리스도 안에서 죽은 자들이 먼저 일어나고 그 뒤에 살아서 남아 있는 우리도 그들과 함께 구름들 속으로 채여 올라가 공중에서 주를 만나리라. 그리하여 우리가 항상 주와 함께 있으리라.)[1 Thessalonians 4:16-17]

 

"Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth." (네가 나의 인내의 말을 지켰은즉 나도 너를 지켜 시험의 시간을 면하게 하리니 그것은 곧 온 세상에 임하여 땅에 거하는 자들을 시험할 시간이라.)[Revelation 3:10]
